23.02.2010
welcome back.
19.02.2010
missing you.
now playing:
major lazer - cash flow (feat. jah dan)
just to balance out the major lazer song (well, video) i posted the other day, here's one of their mellower tracks. good stuff.
15.02.2010
nevermind the historical revisionism. everybody does it you know.
a few more sketches:
for a while i was doing lots of birds on transparencies.
unfortunately, they do not scan so well. here is a picture instead.
12.02.2010
i saw this and i had to share.
now playing:
major lazer - keep it goin' louder
somehow missed this when it came out a couple of months ago. you really have to see it to believe it.
has eric wareheim succeeded chris cunningham as king of the grotesque in music videos??
11.02.2010
busy busy busy.
first: a new false idol..
i've been working on this on and off since december but it finally clicked into place between last night and today.
next, a polar remix of the hand picture from the other day.
i'm actually animating this so there's 4 overlays of hands rotating at different speeds.
pretty tripped out.. should be up soon along with a new video section.
and, finally, a new addition to the long-defunct self-portrait series.
very ghostly, plus i like that my face looks like a pillar (or a puff of smoke hitting the ceiling).
now playing:
owen pallett - lewis takes off his shirt
even though i certainly like the first two final fantasy albums, i always thought they were a bit hit and miss.
heartland, on the other hand, is undoubtedly owen pallett's strongest work-- self-assured without being pretentious.
it's pretty hard to pick just one song but hopefully you'll like this one as much as i do. if you can, go see him live.
09.02.2010
i've been making lots of polar panoramas lately.
they're actually pretty easy to make
(see here or here for instructions)
and you can get some cool results with a little experimentation.
for now, i give you the grand canyon:
the amstel:
and the rockies:
now playing:
massive attack - paradise circus
one of the standout tracks from heligoland, massive attack's first album in seven years.
the sparse instrumentation perfectly complements hope sandoval's moody vocals. sexy as hell.
06.02.2010
begin phase 2.

now playing:
vampire weekend - taxi cab
i'm not gonna say too much about vampire weekend's new album except that you should give it a few listens before you decide on it.
sure there's a couple of stinkers (california english, cousins) and one just-ok song (holiday) but everything else is gold. gold, i tell you!
take taxi cab, an absolute gem of a song. it's calm, understated, and unmistakably vampire weekend, all without rehashing the past.
it's so refreshing to hear something that isn't trying to be catchy or clever or cute. it is just itself and you can't help loving it for that.
vampire weekend - diplomat's son
how cousins is the lead single for contra i'll never know.. talk about selling yourself short. this song, on the other hand, is easily one of the
best things they have ever done. it is pure pop perfection and saying much more is wasting your time. just hit play.. you can thank me later.
23.01.2010
well that was interesting...

i've been doing some anatomical drawings lately-- lots of muscles and smoke and rays of light.
it's productive and all but these lines are killing me...
yesterday i actually thought my hand was broken, i could barely open and close it.
for now here's a couple of rough designs, just for shits and giggles.

this idea has been kicking around my head for years now and i still haven't been able to execute it properly.
oh well, at least the colours came out nicely.

also, while i was in toronto in december i went through a bunch of my old timelapse videos.
i started working on a couple of them again but i got sidetracked. maybe one day they'll get finished..

10.12.2009
lots of stuff, old and new, now up. go look around...
09.12.2009
how awesome is this postcard i got at the market??
08.12.2009
some new pictures from düsseldorf and amsterdam now up.
01.12.2009
things are really coming together now...

08.10.2009
heyyy, finally some new stuff.

now playing:
mameshiba!
"did you know...?"
no, i didn't.
30.09.2009
"and all these things will pass, it's the good ones that will last
and right here what we've had, is a good thing, and it will last"
now playing:
massive attack - splitting the atom
dark. brooding. awesome.
the rural alberta advantage - four night rider
i only heard about these guys recently, which is ridiculous since they are easily one of toronto's best bands.
if you get a chance, go see them live. if not, pick up their debut, hometowns.
fanfarlo - drowning men
like the british bastard child of beirut and arcade fire (in a good way). their debut, reservoir, is amazing. go get it.
previously
amadou and mariam - sabali
i saw amadou & mariam at a free concert at harbourfront a couple of years ago and i'll never forget the crowd that night.
it was probably the most diverse audience i've ever seen, people of every age and race smiling and dancing to the same song.
it sounds cheesy but it's true. they're just that good. enjoy their newest single.. if you like music, you'll like this song.
white lies - unfinished business (demo)
they may have gotten overhyped, but hot damn this song is good.
this is the version i always knew, not that overproduced pap you heard on the radio.
james houston/radiohead - big ideas (don't get any)
one of my favourite fan-made music videos. properly starts at 1:08.
